SIGNS
Astrological signs are arranged around the outer perimeter of the chart in a counterclockwise direction. The signs do not have a fixed position, but they always follow each other in the natural sequence from Aries to Pisces. The position of the signs in the chart is determined by the sign that is located on the Ascendant. For example, if the Ascendant is in the sign of Sagittarius (as shown in the picture), this means that the sign before it would be Scorpio, while the sign after it would be Capricorn, followed by Aquarius, then Pisces, then Aries, etc.
PLANETS
Planets are arranged in the chart according to the positions they were in at the time of an individual’s birth. Next to the symbol for each planet, we can read its exact position in degrees and minutes. The same data can also be found below the chart.
HOUSES
The chart is divided into twelve sectors, or houses. In the inner corner of each house, there may also be a number, additionally indicating a specific house. Houses have a fixed position in the birth chart, meaning that each house is always located in the same place in the chart; the First house is always located on the left side of the chart, followed by the Second, the Third, etc., in a counterclockwise direction. Each house represents a specific area of life. The presence of planets in a house emphasizes the importance of that particular house and its themes in an individual’s life. Empty houses are somewhat less important for the individual, although the activities of these houses are still a part of their life.
ASPECTS
Aspects are lines that represent the geometric distance between two planets. There are a number of different aspects, which are defined by the distance between both planets in degrees. Whenever two planets are forming an aspect, a certain relationship is established between them. The type of aspect and the nature of both planets tell us whether the planetary relationship is easy or difficult, in other words, whether these two planets help or hinder each other’s activity.
ANGLES
The chart has four angles. Each pair of angles is located on the same axis, exactly opposite each other. The angle at the top of the chart is called the Midheaven and is marked with the abbreviation MC, short for Medium Coeli. Opposite to it is the Nadir, abbreviated IC (Imum Coeli). On the left side of the chart is the Ascendant (abbreviated AC), which marks the sunrise, and opposite to it is the Descendant (abbreviated DC), which marks the sunset. Chart angles are sensitive points, which represent the starting points of the angular houses, i.e. the First (AC), the Fourth (IC), the Seventh (DC), and the Tenth house (MC). The angular houses are the most active houses of the chart. The planets located in these houses are in a strengthened position and have a greater influence in a chart, especially if they are located close to an angle.
PLANETARY POSITIONS AND HOUSE CUSPS
This table is usually located on the left side right below the chart. From it, we can read the exact positions of planets and house cusps in degrees, minutes, and seconds.
TABLE OF ASPECTS
This is a table of all the aspects that are created between the planets in a particular chart. We can use this table whenever there are many aspects in a chart and it is difficult to see, which two planets are forming an aspect. From it, we can read the type of aspect and its orb.
ELEMENTS AND MODALITIES TABLE
From this table, we can see the ratio of individual elements and modalities in a chart.
