1. "I don't believe in astrology."
Astrology is a complex system that explores human nature and life. We can only discover its value if we dedicate our time to it and learn how it works. Quite a few professional astrologers were skeptical about astrology before they actually knew anything about it, but when they actually learned how astrology works, they came to the inevitable conclusion that it works. Among the skeptics was Johannes Kepler, who said "A most unfailing experience (as far as can be expected in nature) of the excitement of sublunary (that is, human) natures by the conjunctions and aspects of the planets has instructed and compelled my unwilling belief."
2. "Astrology is not a science."
Astrology is partially scientific, however, it explores topics that cannot be explained by using scientific language. Human nature is complex and astrology takes this fact into account.
3. "Studies have shown that there is no connection between the astrological chart and the personality."
Scientific studies that seek to prove the validity of astrology try to explain human nature, which is complex and changeable. This means that a single study cannot definitively confirm the validity of astrology. In the last half a century, an extensive number of studies has been accumulated confirming that there is a correlation between celestial positions and life on Earth.
One of the most well-known successful studies is Gauquelin’s study called Personality and Position of Planets at Birth: An empirical study, which statistically confirmed that there is a link between career choice and culminating planets in the birth chart. Specifically, the study found that culminating Mars makes athletes, culminating Jupiter makes actors, culminating Moon makes writers and culminating Saturn makes scientists. The study confirmed that the characteristics of the planets positioned on chart angles are more pronounced in the nature of an individual.
4. "The stars are moving, so the constellations are no longer in the same positions as they were millennia ago."
The Western tradition of astrology divides space according to the seasons and equinoxes, so the fact that the constellations move does not affect the calculation of the planetary positions in the signs. Vedic astrology, however, divides the space according to the constellations and takes this fact into account when calculating positions.
5. "The mass of the planets cannot affect human life."
Astrology does not claim that the mass of the planets influences the life decisions of an individual, only that there is a correlation between the positions of the planets and events on Earth, based on the principle "as above, so below".
6. "My sign doesn’t describe me. The description is too general."
"People born under the same sign are different from each other."
Astrological descriptions of the signs are archetypal. Human nature is more complex than archetypes and can only be described astrologically when we analyze the position of a planet in a house and sign and the influence of aspects it is making.
7. "The daily/weekly/monthly horoscope does not describe my current circumstances/cannot describe the current circumstances for all people born under the same sign."
These horoscopes are usually calculated according to the position of the Ascendant. The Sun and the Moon have a certain influence, but it is better to read such horoscopes from the sign of your Ascendant. For more accurate information that fully reflects the current circumstances of the individual, it is necessary to study the birth chart of the individual and determine how the planets in the current positions affect the birth planets.
8. "Nothing is predestined, people have free will."
Yes and no. Certain things are given as potential in the birth chart, but it is up to the individual how they choose to use this potential. On the other hand, we could also argue that fate and free will are in a way one and the same, because everything we do in life, is also destined, and vice versa - everything that is destined for us, will certainly come to be.
9. "I was born in the sign of Leo, I get along with Aries people, and not at all with Scorpios."
Humans are more complex than archetypal descriptions of the signs, so the sign someone was born in does not automatically mean they will only get along with people of certain signs and not with others. A special discipline of astrology, called synastry, is dedicated to the study of interpersonal relationships and compatibility between people.
10. "Which sign is the best/worst?"
None of them. Each sign has both positive and negative characteristics, that allow them to do well in certain life areas and create problems for them in others.
