Astrology has long been used to determine when important events should take place. It was only later that the Greeks came to the realization that if planetary combinations symbolize the nature of events happening at a given moment, then they could also symbolize the nature of a person born at a given moment. By introducing the use of the Ascendant, the Greeks were able to determine the exact moment of “birth” of an event and were able to analyze its significance and outcome more precisely. They transferred the same principle to the birth chart analysis; if the nature of events is determined by the exact moment of its “birth”, the same must be true for people. This is how they began to use the birth chart to analyze the personality and life circumstances of an individual. One of the newer uses of astrology, therefore, is birth chart analysis.
The chart is created for the exact time of birth and is a reflection of our personality and life. This begs the question, to what extent are our personality and events destined? If everything is predetermined, does that mean that we don’t have free will and no choice in our life path? Are we simply caught up in experiencing events that are chosen for us by our time of birth? And if we are powerless in everything, what exactly is the point? Is our life path a matter of fate or free will?
The answer probably depends on what each individual believes. The birth chart gives us certain parameters. This means that the positions of the planets at our time of birth give us certain predispositions and set certain limitations for us. An astrologer cannot determine the exact events that might happen to us, but they can describe a set of options that are offered to us by the chart.
The chart consists of symbols, each of them holding a wide range of meanings. By combining their meanings and finding common ground between individual symbols, we can to some extent predict how the combination will turn out. Sometimes the options can be limited to only a few possible outcomes, but we can never guarantee an exact outcome. The planets only incline us, they do not determine our reactions to events. From a detailed analysis of the birth chart, we can predict what, in accordance with their personality, is the most probable response of an individual, however, each person is capable of different responses, from the most typical to the most surprising. In principle, however, it is true that people prefer to go with the easier option, and because of this, we can to some extent predict which reaction is more probable.
The chart represents a set of possibilities and predispositions, but it depends entirely on the individual how they will be expressed. Every human being can function at the highest level or not. The more difficult planetary combinations in a chart can show themselves as challenges and difficulties, but they also present an opportunity for personal growth if the individual is willing to invest the time and energy that are required for it. The easier planetary combinations may seem more desirable at a first glance, but they can also express themselves as a lack of ambition and perseverance since the individual is accustomed to always getting many opportunities and to everything working out for them without too much effort. Because of this, they are often unwilling to invest their time and energy to reach their objectives when necessary. Each combination in the astrological chart has its advantages and disadvantages, and it depends on the individual how they choose to use it.
Astrology is primarily a useful tool for discovering our own potential and understanding our abilities. By using this tool, we can recognize our negative patterns and learn to use them positively. At the same time, the astrological chart can also reveal to us the reasons behind our life circumstances. By overcoming our weaknesses, we can achieve our spiritual growth, resulting in greater personal satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment. The birth chart is a map, but we choose both our goal and our path to it by ourselves.
