Major aspects have a stronger influence than minor aspects and are typically used in all kinds of astrological interpretations. Majors aspects can be easy (harmonious) or hard (disharmonious).
Easy aspects are formed between two planets, whose energies are harmonious. This creates a certain ease or mutual support in the expression of their energies. Easy aspects are a trine and a sextile. In charts, they are usually represented by blue lines; the trine is represented by a long blue line, while the sextile is represented by a short blue line.
Hard aspects are formed between two planets, whose energies are disharmonious. This creates a certain difficulty or mutual blocking in the expression of their energies. Hard aspects are a conjunction, a square, and an opposition. In charts, they are usually represented by red lines. A conjunction connects two planets that are right next to each other, so it doesn’t have a special marking. A square is represented by a short red line, while an opposition is represented by a long red line.
Different aspects allow for different orbs. The orb for a conjunction, the square, the trine, and the opposition is 8°, while the sextile allows for an orb of 6°.
