A quick guide to karmic analysis (part 3)

After we have analyzed the South node and several other points in the chart, which may help us understand the individual's past life circumstances, it is important we also look at how we can contextualize their past life within their current life. In the third part of this article, we are going to focus on the North node, which can help us understand how the individual can balance out their past life experiences and progress on their spiritual path. Just like the South node analysis, which we looked at in part 1 of this article, this method of analyzing the North node is taught by Steven Forrest.

THE NORTH NODE

The North node by sign and house is located exactly opposite the South node, which represents the individual's past life self. The North node represents the future self, the self the individual is striving to become in their current incarnation. The North node by sign and house shows us, what kind of approach or personal choices can help the individual balance out their past life experiences. The individual is not required to follow their North node, however, if they don't, they risk staying stuck and living a life that has many similarities to their past life and which feels deeply unsatisfying on some level.

THE NORTH NODE RULER

The planet that rules the sign of the North node can give us more information about the approach the individual can take in order to conquer their North node lessons. The ruler shows us the path to the realization of the North node and the things or attitudes that might help the individual achieve this goal faster. In other words, the North node is the goal, the ruler shows us the way that leads to it.

PLANETS IN TRINE OR SEXTILE ASPECT TO THE NORTH NODE OR ITS RULER

Planets that form positive aspects to the North node are also making positive aspects to the South node. As we said in part 1 of this article, positive aspects to the South node represent helpful circumstances or people, who have been supportive of the individual in their past life. Don't forget, this support may not have been only positive; it may have also "helped" the individual get themselves into trouble. Planets that are forming positive aspects to the North node can represent those same people or circumstances again, only, hopefully, this time the individual is able to recognize the difference between actual help and "help". These aspects can indicate people or situations that can be good for the individual, supportive of them or that can serve as positive examples to them.

PLANETS IN SQUARE ASPECT TO THE NORTH NODE OR ITS RULER

Planets that square the North node are also squaring the South node. These planets are hanging in the balance between both lives, so to speak. They have been causing trouble or blocking the individual in their past life and they are back to challenge them once more. The purpose of this configuration is to remember the past life challenges and to tackle them again but in a way that is more constructive. The individual is encouraged to take on the challenges represented by the squares and try to work them out in positive ways. Square aspects represent the biggest challenges, however, they also offer the opportunity for the greatest growth and personal progress.

PLANETS IN OPPOSITION ASPECT TO THE NORTH NODE OR ITS RULER

Planets that are opposing the North node are forming conjunctions with the South node at the same time. In the past life context, these planets give us some insight into the individual's personality and their life circumstances. In the current life, they represent a past energy, which needs to be let go of if the individual is going to grow on a personal level. Since the individual strongly identifies with these planets' qualities, this may prove to be very challenging, especially if personal planets are involved, since that basically requires that the individual let go of a vital part of themselves to whatever extent that is possible.
