About the Lunar nodes

Writer's picture: AlenkaAlenka

The Lunar nodes are a pair of mathematical points we use in astrology. They represent the points where the ecliptics of the Earth and the Moon cross each other. These two points are named the North and the South node. They are positioned exactly opposite each other, so they work as an axis.

In astrology, the Lunar nodes represent karmic points. From their position in a sign and house, we can figure out the individual’s karmic story. The South node gives us information about the karmic patterns the individual has created in their past lives, on which they need to work in this lifetime. The North node suggests in what way the individual can resolve their karmic patterns in order to grow spiritually.

The nodes are located exactly opposite each other, so they carry the energy of an opposition and function as a pair. In the natal chart, the Lunar axis represents life themes and areas that the individual needs to somehow balance out. If they are too focused on one of the nodes and avoid the other one, they will notice the imbalance in their own life. For example, if the individual is too caught in the behavioral patterns represented by the South node, and they avoid the themes of the North node, they are not going to evolve on a personal level. If, on the other hand, they choose to completely distance themselves from the karmic lessons of the South node and they focus exclusively on the North node, they are not going to use whatever knowledge and wisdom they have gained in their previous lives. The highest purpose of these lessons is to give the individual help in this lifetime; if the individual chooses to leave them behind altogether, they are going to have a harder time conquering the lessons of their North node. In this way, they are significantly slowing down their spiritual growth.
