Descendant

The Descendant (or the DC) is the westernmost point of the astrological chart. This is the cusp of the Seventh house; it represents the individual's relationship towards others. The sign on the Descendant tells us how an individual makes contact with other people and to what extent they are able to understand the views of others. It also shows us whether the individual is capable of devotion and intimacy in personal relationships.

The Descendant represents the qualities, which are somewhat foreign to the individual because the Seventh house is located exactly opposite the First house. Since the First house represents the individual, everything opposite to this point feels foreign and unlike them. Usually, the individual doesn’t identify with whatever is located in the Seventh house, instead, they project these qualities onto others, especially in their personal relationships. In reality, these qualities are a part of the individual but they tend to reveal themselves only when the individual establishes a relationship with another person.

The Descendant shows us, how important personal relationships are to the individual. It tells us what the individual looks for in relationships, what their expectations are in relationships, and what they appreciate the most when in a relationship. It also signifies what the individual finds attractive in their potential partners; these qualities draw the individual in because they feel opposite to their own character and, therefore, balance out their own personality.

The Descendant also tells how easily we establish contacts with people and how easily we take the initiative in this sense. It also shows, what kind of impression we leave on others, even though we might be unaware of it. The Descendant can also indicate, how well does the individual cooperate with others, how easily they make compromises, and how well they adapt to others’ needs.

Based on the element of the Descendant, we can determine more specifically which qualities are most important to the individual in relationships:

Fire Descendants look for partnerships full of passion, liveliness, mutual support, and encouragement. They are attracted to partners, who are inspiring, ambitious, confident, and independent. They like shared adventures and discovering new things;

Air Descendants look for a mental connection. They are attracted to partners, who are intelligent, rational, and communicative. In relationships, they expect a lot of communication, mental stimulation, as well as an exchange of opinions and knowledge. They don’t want to be bored;

Earth Descendants put a lot of importance on reliability, practicality, and longevity in relationships. They are attracted to partnerships, where they know what to expect. In relationships, they look for seriousness, responsibility, and commitment. They are focused on long term goals;

Water Descendants look for partnerships that are based on a close connection and deep feelings. They are attracted to partners, who are sensitive, intuitive, and very loving. In relationships, they expect intimacy, gentleness, and loyalty. They are very romantic and idealistic.
