In casual conversations, the word karma is mentioned from time to time. Usually, it is used in the meaning of a fair payback for someone's wrongdoings, however, the astrological understanding of the term is somewhat different. In the following article, I would like to explain how the term karma is understood in astrology and what is the role of karma in the context of karmic astrology.
Karmic astrology is based on the idea of reincarnation and the continual spiritual growth of an individual by way of living many lifetimes and having all kinds of different life experiences. In astrology, karma is the accumulation of our unresolved behavioral patterns, outdated beliefs and personal challenges that we have brought forth from our previous lives. In this sense, karma also describes the level of our spiritual consciousness.
Depending on what spiritual level our soul is at by the end of a particular lifetime, we begin the next life in circumstances that offer us the most optimal conditions for our personal growth. Many times we are therefore thrown into circumstances, which, to a certain extent, repeat the circumstances of some other life we have already experienced. The repetition can be quite literal, meaning we find ourselves in the same or very similar circumstances; even if the circumstances are not exactly the same, we are still going to experience a repetition on an emotional level. This means that the given circumstances are going to provoke in us an emotional reaction that is equal to the one we have experienced in a previous life.
The reason for this is that these circumstances offer us an opportunity to take another look at the conditions we once existed in, which have been limiting in some way. On some level, we recognize them as familiar or even outlived, so this repetition gives us an opportunity to gather the courage and choose a course of events that is better for us. By overcoming these limiting circumstances and leaving them behind, we can also overcome our personal limitations and grow spiritually.
Karma, therefore, is not a punishment for our negative actions but an opportunity for our spiritual growth. We also have to understand that within one lifetime we only deal with a small part of our overall karma. When a certain part of our karma "ripens", this means we are finally ready to deal with it. When all the conditions are fulfilled, both internal and external, the individual incarnates and is given the opportunity to solve the karma that has "ripened".
