Zodiac signs and your lesson plan

Whenever we talk about the twelve signs in astrology, we tend to only focus on the signs' typical personality traits and apply this information directly on the birth chart and the person the chart belongs to. In essence, we are saying: you are an /Aries/ and here is what your personality is like. This kind of approach to astrological interpretation works with the assumption that the person was already born with all the characteristics of Aries and that they have embodied this energy from that moment on in a consistent, unchanging way.

In karmic astrology, we understand the planetary positions a little differently. Karmic astrology works with the assumption that, as humans, we incarnate again and again to experience many lives; the ultimate intention behind this is for us to learn and, through experiencing different lives, to keep evolving on a soul level. In essence, we are born, we make a few mistakes, we learn something from them and then we die. By repeating this cycle many times over, we get the chance to explore different things, different lives and different environments; in this way, we can learn different lessons.

Every incarnation is an opportunity to learn and evolve. So when we are born as an Aries, for example, we are not the perfect embodiment of this archetype from the moment we are born. Instead, we are here to spend our lifetime learning about it. In other words, we are not born as an Aries, we learn to become one through the challenges and obstacles life gives us. Our soul is using this lifetime to perfect and, ultimately, master the challenge of becoming an Aries.

Following this logic, the simple fact that we were born means we came here to evolve. The next question we have to ask ourselves is, what are we evolving into and, perhaps even more importantly, what are we evolving from? In other words, why were you born as, say, an Aries? Clearly, your soul chose to learn about this particular archetype in this lifetime but why? How does embodying this archetype in this lifetime make sense for your soul evolution? And how can your birth chart give you clues to figure out what your "lesson plan" is for this life?

In the following series of articles on the zodiac signs, we are going to explore every sign from a karmic perspective and try to uncover the deeper layers of each archetype. My hope is that these articles can help you figure out your personal "lesson plan" and understand the deeper reasons behind it for your spiritual growth.
